About Gooseberry Açaí

Gooseberry Açaí is a locally owned Newberg-area business created by Jordyn and Micah Ritschard to bring fresh açaí bowls and smoothies to the Chehalem Valley.

The idea started with Jordyn's long-standing love of açaí. After moving to Oregon and finding few nearby options, she dreamed of creating an açaí business of her own. She had been making herself an açaí smoothie almost every day for years before finally deciding it was time to turn the dream into a real business.

A local business built around good food, community, and doing something they've dreamed about for years.

Jordyn and Micah bring complementary skills to Gooseberry. Jordyn is a graphic designer and freelance videographer who has lived in Newberg since 2015, while Micah is a mechanical engineer. Together, they are building Gooseberry alongside their existing careers with the hope that the business can eventually become their primary focus.

Gooseberry launched in June 2026 and began operating as a pop-up around Newberg and Dundee. The business has a regular presence at The Hills Dundee Farmers Market, along with appearances at local food-cart events and community gatherings.

The bowls keep things simple: Brazilian açaí sorbet, fresh bananas, blueberries and strawberries, gluten-free granola, and a drizzle. Guests can customize their bowl with options such as honey, Nutella, peanut butter, or lilikoi passion-fruit butter.

The story behind Gooseberry is personal, too. The business was launched during a difficult season for the Ritschard family after Jordyn's father, Dwayne, died unexpectedly. His entrepreneurial example helped inspire Jordyn to stop waiting for the perfect time and start building something of her own. The largest Gooseberry bowl, the Papa Goose, honors his memory.

“We didn't want to keep waiting for the ‘perfect’ time to start.”

Gooseberry Açaí is more than a food cart. It is a small, local business with a big goal: create great food, show up in the community, and grow something that people in Newberg and Dundee are excited to have around.

Gooseberry is also available for private events, including weddings, fitness events, winery appearances, and other gatherings.
