About One Way Backflow
One Way Backflow is a backflow testing company in Newberg, Oregon, owned by Kahlil “Kal” Howell. If your home or business has an irrigation system, a fire sprinkler line or certain plumbing connections, there is a backflow assembly on the property that keeps water flowing one direction only, into the building and never back into the public water supply. The City of Newberg requires those assemblies to be tested every year by a certified tester, and that is Kal’s work.
Kal has more than 15 years in the backflow industry, testing and repairing assemblies and teaching the certification courses that train other testers across the Pacific Northwest, Hawaii and Alaska. He started One Way Backflow in Newberg in 2026 so he could stop traveling and serve one community. He is an Oregon Health Authority certified Backflow Assembly Tester (BAT-5403).

Why I’m Featuring Kal
Backflow testing is on the utility list I give every buyer who closes on a house in Newberg. It’s a small yearly requirement, and most new homeowners don’t know about it until the city sends a notice.
Kal knows the testing standard from the inside, since he spent years teaching the certification courses. He is local, he answers his own phone, and he makes the annual test easy to schedule. If your inspection report or your first city notice mentions a backflow assembly, he’s the person I’d call. For a full inspection of the rest of the house, see Sunstone Home Inspection.

Once a year. The city sends a notice when your test is due, and the test has to be done by a certified backflow assembly tester.

If the home has a backflow assembly, yes, the annual test continues with the new owner. Check your closing paperwork or wait for the city notice, then schedule the test.
